Sciatica

Sciatica is a very common type of pain that originates in the lower back and travels through the buttock and down the large sciatic nerve in the back of each leg.

Generally the patient complains of a dull achy pain, sharp stabbing pain or pins and needles.  Other symptoms can be burning, numbness and tingling sensations.  Sciatica is also considered to be a radiating or referred pain.

Treatments for sciatica include:

-Spinal Manipulation (adjustments) to allow more movement of the spine and re-align  the vertebra to the proper position.

-Acupuncture to increase the blood flow to the area and help relax the muscles.

-K-Laser to increase the circulation thus reducing the inflammation, swelling, muscle spasm, stiffness and pain.

-Ultrasound to increase circulation and help reduce spasms, cramping, swelling and pain.

-TENS/IFC to control acute pain and reduce muscle spasms.

-Massage to release natural body endorphins that provide relief from throbbing pain.

-Ice to reduce inflammation and alleviate pain.

-Exercises to stretch out tightened muscles and allow for more movement in the lower back.  Regular exercise routines will also condition the body to help prevent sciatica pain in the future.
