Shoulder pain?
Clicking? Catching? Issues with overhead work or reaching? Repetitive activity during the day?
Just like many other conditions, shoulder pain can be caused many different factors, whether it be biophysical, psychological, social etc. Some of the causes can be due an injury to a ligament or a muscle, inflammation of a tendon, inflammation of the fluid filled sacs near a joint, irritation of a soft tissue maybe due to repetitive motions. Sometimes, a more serious pathology may be occurring and additional care from another provider may be needed. Upon assessment. These can all affect the way we function day to day, our sleep and our work routine.
Just like with any other symptoms we may have; treatment can help to speed up recovery. Treatment may help to reduce pain and improve function. Treatment is different for everyone and not everyone will respond in the same ways. One thing that holds true is that pain typically will resolve on its own in a few months.
Treatment that may help to provide some relief can include the following:
- Education and reassurance
- Exercise (stretching and strengthening)
- Heat/cold
- Laser therapy
- Manual therapy (manipulation and mobilizations)
